This was a wonderful social practice project. I had the opportunity to do what I enjoy most, connecting people. Only this was an opportunity for Broxites and visitors to engage in an "alternative" street festival.
It was three Sundays in August that the center lanes of the Grand Concourse (modelled after the Champs Elysee) from 165 - 167th Streets (it's actually four city blocks) from 10am-2pm.
I was the Curatorial Project Head of this event and invited 88 arts/cultural organizations, civic and health agencies, independent artists and creative work groups. The Bronx Museum of the Arts was a great institution to implement this community building event with partners Dept of Transportation and Transportation Alternatives.
